Born in 1959 in the Dordogne, Daniel Castan started drawing from a young age. A graduate of Fine Arts inBordeaux, he worked as a graphic designer, created his company and performs work for UNICEF, Pierre Balmain, the UN, ZIPPO. Then at age 40, he took the brush for fun and for fun only.
Daniel Castan the artist has traveled extensively in New York and Hong Kong. He kept a fascination for the urban world and their prospects. In his paintings he tries to recreate the atmosphere very graphically. The lines of buildings are lost in the sky, the wide avenues seem endless, the colors clash. The cities of Daniel Castan are a celebration of color and light that invite us to travel.
The artist works from his memories, his imagination.
“In the past, I have photographed these cities. When I started painting, I used these pictures. But today, I create my world while maintaining some realism. I add buildings, I remove them. ”
Daniel Castan chose to paint with an oil alkyd. It works like traditional oil, but the binder is a resin that allows an accelerated drying.
“It’s perfect for me because I am a painter of the moment, I work fast. Acrylic dries too quickly, it doesn’t allow mistakes. As I make my mixes on the canvas, I have to correct them during the session. ”
